My time AT HAiHATUSI came to Haihatus to make brushes from found materials and to use them to make marks using Sumi ink on paper.
I made 30 brushes. About one third of them disintegrated in the process of mark making due to the flimsy nature of some of the materials such as dried grasses and brittle stems of flowers. At the end of my residency at Haihatus I set up an exhibition of what was left off the brushes and the works on paper in a black tower in a field of snow. The tower became a motif in the works on paper. You can see some of the brushes and works on paper below. |
